Hi Ger,

Some of these things depend on which scanner you are using. The book being a hardback, you may need to flatten the pages either side of the book's spine down on the scanner glass, and stretch the pages again after each number of pages; or (if the scanner is on the small side) you may be able to comfortably scan just one page at a time. If you are up for it, you could try (with the scanner lid down) putting a rather heavy object over the part of the book that is tending to rise up.

Also, which version of Kurzweil 1000 are you using? there is a Scanning Optimization Wizard - alt-s, o - which has a settings dialogue. Entering on either the status or OK buttons enables the optimization to occur over a number of scans. At the end of that, which takes a few minutes, K1000 completes the optimization and gives a list of what it estimates the best settings to be on the pages you set it to work on. Also, do read the K1000 manual. (You can sort bookmarks inn it alphabetically or by subject.)

Hi, I'd appreciate any advice on the correct settings for scanning a hard back book with kurtzweiler. I place the open pages on the screen and scan. Now, I find that the level of recognition and its accuracy decreases to a point after a few paragraphs. I understand that there are a number of recognition engines and settings for normal text/draft etc. Is it correct to think that I have to adjust the settings to get better accuracy for a magazine and in this case set the settings to a particular mix for reading the text in a hard back book. If anyone can suggest the best mix of the options in the scanning and recognition tabsheets I'd appreciate it. Also is there a particular way I should place the book in that presently I set it to the top left hand corner? Thanks. Gerry.
