Dear all,
As many of you may be aware Vics has been quite inactive for the last number
of years. Other than the mailing list, which continues to provide support
to members, the society has being doing little to further its aims and
objectives, and by extension benefit its members.
The reasons for this are many and varied, but regardless of this, there is
no doubt that the current committee is unable to progress the situation.
An EGM on the future of Vics was held during 2014. While many interesting
ideas were put forward att that meeting, unfortunately since then nothing
has been forthcoming.
For the last few months a number of us have been discussing what can be done
to revitalise the society.
There is no doubt that technology, and the way we use and interact with it
has changed radically since vics was first established over 25 years ago.
Some might argue that Vics is no longer relevant and that the reasons for
what it was originally set up for are no longer valid.
However, we believe that there is still a role for vics and that we can all
benefit from a strong and positive society.
Having said that, it is clear that the current set up of vics is not helping
in allowing it to grow and develop as it might.
To that end we would like to call an Extraordinary General Meeting of
members.
I have listed the details of the meeting, along with a proposed agenda
below.
In addition, we may be in a position to provide light refreshments on the
day if sufficient numbers request it.
Unfortunately, as we don't have access to the vics account, any cost of the
refreshments would have to be met by each individual.
If you would like refreshments, could you confirm this on or before 28th
February so that we are in a position to inform the caterers as to exact
numbers.

1. Suspension of standing orders
In the absence of a fully constituted committee, we need to formally permit
the meeting to go ahead with those members who are present.
2. The modification of the Vics constitution to reform the structure of the
committee.
The existing structure would be replaced by a 4 person board of directors
The exact wording of this change will be circulated shortly.

4. Matters for discussion and approval
4.1. To seek permission from the members for the board to open discussions
between vics and other organisation involved in the field of visual
impairment, with aview of developing and fostering closer working
relationships between vics and one or more of those organizations.
If permission is granted, the board will present the results of its
discussions to a future meeting of members before any final decisions would
be taken.
