Indeed, very interesting.

Wow! My 'free time' clock just shattered!!
Use a software daemon to restart it every 2 seconds.
I found some useful bits in the above about speeding up things on the Pi and I've also found some stuff about programming the GPU on the pi (24Gflops there to be had) so when I've stopped playing with daemons....
