I always thought that this was kind of expected, and have used it
productively several times. It's not an important feature though, and I
can see how it can be confusing. I would in fact vote for disabling it
permanently (no config setting), since the same functionality is still
available by going to the original waveform. The benefit of keeping a
config setting is pretty marginal, but as always, it adds more maintenance.
