I believe you will find a project out there using Yoshimi on a Pi.
Could give you a nice jump start!

Interesting!! Doing some playing with the new RaspberryPi with a touchscreen - the idea being to see if I can make it into a cheap guitar effects machine. If I get time I will see if I can build yosh on it - could be intersting with the midi memory thing....
