Hi George. For some reason, my new Samsung Q330 laptop seems to have been shipped with a 32-bit version of Windows 7, even though it has 4 gigs of DDR3 memory. I don't know why this is, Samsung cant give me any answers and there are a lot of whiners on various forums complaining about it, though I'm not overly bothered myself. Its puzzling though as my other main use machine which has a similar memory setup has 64-bit Windows 7 so I think you'll find its more common than you might surmise.
All the best, Ibrahim.-----Original Message----- From: George Bell

What you have to be very careful about, Alex, is that you can in fact put a 32 bit version of Windows on to a 64 bit machine. Unfortunately I discovered this to my cost with my HP Compaq laptop as well as a number a Compaq desktops I have here at the moment. So while they "appear" to be 64 bit, with 32 bit Windows installed, they cannot have any 64 bit versions of software installed such as JAWS. It's a less common configuration now, but has caused us grief sometimes. You can have a 64 bit ready machine, with a 32 bit op system, and run 32 bit applications. However, if you have a 64 bit operating system, you will need to use 64 bit JAWS. to
use a 32bit operating system. You can install a 32bit os on 64bit hardware but not run the 32bit jaws when you have a 64bit widnows installed. hth Doris At 04:02 AM 5/16/2011, you wrote:Hi all. If you have the JAWS DVD, it will detect the platform andautomaticallyinstall the appropriate version for you. If not, then you will havetodownload the version of JAWS according to your platform. So in this case Janet, you will either need to simply insert the DVD or
download
the 64 bit version of JAWS 12. No 32 bit version of JAWS will work
on
a64 bit operating system. Take care. Chris Hallsworth On 16/05/2011 05:48, Janet Tuggey wrote:Hi all, would it be OK to put a 32bit version of JAWS on a laptop running a 64bit version of Windows 7? I'm guessing it would be but
