I'd only add to this thread that, when I made mention of the fact that we are
not the only 'print handicapped' users on the web I did mean, without saying,
what James has pointed out re. those with cognitive problems and dyslexics, for
example.

I also hinted at my less than perfect knowledge around why we have these
verification schemes in the first place , and it seems to point to, from what's
been said, that its to prevent large volumes of spam emails. To be frank I've
never had a very great problem with spam, and its low enough in volume for it
barely to be a minor annoyance to me. Norton, which I'm about to ditch soon
now, seems to filter off most of the little I do get - PayPal scams and the
like - so I'm not phased by any of it. Mind you, maybe I lead a sad blameless
sort of internet life.

I do feel that, if this verification process is really necessary, then a work
around for screen reader users must be found, and I hope some of Damon's
thinking bears fruit. whatever the solution it may turn out to require some
effort from us too, not just the providers. Accommodation of needs as its
called these days does often require effort from both parties I'm afraid.

| And one of the other issues with 'sequences' and 'simple questions' is that
| they would not necessarily be particularly useable by people with learning
| difficulties or who lacked certain cultural/linguistic knowledge. They
| might well be able to fill in a simple registration form requesting personal
| details, but a 'question' situation might be difficult.
