This is probably not a topic for Access-UK, so techies can delete if you're not interested.

Derek, I would be absolutely with you in doing everything I can to support my own employment, whether it be by way of getting to work of doing the job or whatever. What bothers me about the "voluntary contribution" is that it further perpetuates the ethos of things having to be done on a voluntary basis to help people with disabilities. It's actually targeted at employers, making them feel that they have to do something for the "poor disabled"; it's rather different with self-employment.

There is already a means within AtW for an assessment to be made of what contribution an employer or a self-employed person should make towards support costs. Why should there then be the additional pull of a voluntary contribution? There are better ways in which AtW could make their funds go further.
