Hi Tristram.

For what its worth, I use a Canon Pixma IP4600, a year or so out of date now but it still is probably the best inkjet I've owned as far as driver accessibility is concerned. I can access information like the ink levels, all the dialog boxes for settings and the printer status and its all pretty standard where controls are concerned. I don't bother with the additional software that comes with the printer for photo management and disk label printing however. One final thing, this printer is automatically recognised by Windows 7, so the driver is automatically downloaded and installed the first time you plug it in.

All the best and I hope this helps you.

Dear Fellow Listers

I would be curious to know whether any of you can help me out with a query with respect to an accessible printer recommendation. The problem these days is that ranges change so often and unless you are a PC reviewer the only time you come across these items is by buying one or seeing somebody else's that works particularly well.

I would be interested in canvassing any good solid opinion on which might be a good accessible inkjet or laser printer that you have found that works well with your screen reader be it JAWS or Windows-Eyes etc. I am less concerned about the external hardware aspect of accessibility as this is often limited anyway by a couple of buttons and LEDs which some may not see at all. In particular I am interested to know whether notification of ink levels is accessible through driver software of your unit and also any general maintenance (particularly head alignment and cleaning) are also similarly nicely accessible.

If you have brought printer within the last year or preferably six months you can recommend and can report its make and model as fulfilling the general requirements with anything else you might have to say about your unit I would very much welcome the opinion. If you would rather not reply to the list please contact me directly at Tristram.llewellyn@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx however I am sure the list would also benefit from such information as we collectively come up with.

Regards.
