Hi Dave, James and all those to whom I promised these.

Well, here they are as my friend gave them and as she managed to do it
using an older handset. I hope they make enough sense to whoever helps
you.

1) Press "Guide". (It took quite a while to come up for us so be
patient.)

2) You should see a menu of eight items which you don't want. Press
up arrow once and another menu should come up which says something about
"Guide, Interactive on Demand and Settings".

3) Press right button 3 times to get on to Settings.

4) Press Select. This brings up another menu.

5) Press Down button twice to Audio Settings.

6) Press Select. This brings up a final menu which shows Reminder
Sound as highlighted. Press down button once and you'll see that by
default the Audio Description is set to "Off".

6) Press right button once to turn it on.

7) Press blue (it's a small round button on the old handset) and this
will take you back to Settings Menu.

8) Press "Up", then "Select" to get back to Guide Menu.

9) Finally press TV button to get out of the menus.

Audio description should now be turned on!

I did finally get round to a two hour conversation with NTL last week
and, though two Customer Services reps did try very hard to be helpful
and even emailed someone else for further detail, they kept saying
things like, "Call back periodically to find out more" and suggested
many times things I couldn't do without being able to see, though I had
told them and did repeat that it meant I couldn't see the screen at all.
I explained that I wouldn't have two hours to spend on that every few
weeks/months to check and also asked what they were going to do about
communicating the information that this was available and letting people
know which channels were available as they were "switched on". They
mentioned talking to their Communications Department but were not really
thinking that this information could be communicated to everyone via
bills and referred me only to their WEB pages which do indicate which
channels are on at present. I did look and eventually, having dug quite
deep, found that there were three or four channels supposedly on, which
included two children's channels I think; but I can't remember exactly
what they were now and can't find them again. In addition, I kept
explaining that I really wanted a complete list of all channels
available and they said they were on the site. Well, I can't find one.
If ever anyone else does, please let me know.

Sorry about this rather long post. I hope some at least is helpful.
Anyone else care to talk with NTL or maybe RNIB about these issues?
Anyone know who I contact at the RNIB?

Cheers now.
