Hi Steve, as Paul has already suggested, for changing the gain of the focussed track, press shift+g to open the gain dialog, and type in a value (in db). For selecting some of the audio in a track to delete or apply an effect. As described in the jaws guide, you have to select both the tracks and the time range you want to delete of apply an effect. There are a number of ways of selecting a time range, so if you're using a particular one, and it's not working, then maybe if you described the steps you are taking, then I could spot what's going wrong. Here's an example. Say you have a number of tracks, and you want to make a short period at the beginning of one of the tracks to be silent. 1. press ctrl+shift+ a to deselect everything. 2. move to the track where you want to silence some of the audio, and press enter to select the track. 3. Press j to move to the start of the audio in the selected tracks, which in this case is a single track. 4. press spacebar to start playback, press ] where you want the end of the selected time range, and press spacebar to stop. 5. You now have one track selected, and a time range selected. To silence this audio, you can open the edit menu, open the remove audio or labels sub menu and choose silence audio (ctrl+L). 6. The time range is still selected, so if you press spacebar, it will playback just this time range. If you want to hear all the audio, press home to move to time zero and deselect the time range. Note that if you have a number of tracks, and only want to hear one of them during playback, then pressing shift + s solos the track, and pressing the key again un solos it. David. original message: Hi David or anyone else who can help. Your help was invaluable before David, I've now gotten off the ground and able to multi track on Audacity but I'm banging my head against the wall trying to figure out how to select parts of a track to delete or apply some effects to. I'm really getting a bit frustrated now smiles. I've looked at the jaws guide and I seem to follow the instructions but I'm deleting the whole content of the track and not just the bit I want. I also am trying to find out how to adjust the individual level of the tracks. Any help would be gratefully received!
