Yes! Zoom Text 8.1 and 9.0 have both been O.K.> for me as far as
magnification is concerned. There is now a good selection of magnifications
levels between 1x and 2x on version 8.1 and here is even a magnification
level at 2.5x on version 9.0. These are all very good for me as I tend to
use the lower levels of magnification having found that anything much higher
than 3x. tends to made me dizzy after prolonged use.
This is why I got the screen reader option fitted at a later date as I had
originally started out with eth magnification option. All in all I am still
quite satisfied with Zoom Text, it is really just the reading capacity in
Outlook Express which is causing me concern as it is missing out several
lines of text when reading on odd occasions. This is why I am looking for
an alternative screen reader.

How do you find Zoomtext 8.1? It would be good to generally recommend
zoomtext again, particularly to people used to the package. I am thinking
of magnification features here rather than speach features. Is Zoomtext now
reasonably fast and stable?

I have been running the beta version of ZT9.0 for the past couple of months
and have found it to be not really that much more stable than ZT8.1 which is
the current version. I have always been something of a fan of Zoom Text,
but since trying this our I am really coming to the conclusion that if I
want something along these lines it was going to have to be Supernova.
This idea of Brian's certainly sounds hopeful and, as I have a demo version
of WE on the way to me, I will be able to let you know how Window Eyes and
Zoom Text coexist over the next few days.
They certainly should work together in theory.

I certainly agree with you in terms of utilising skills but I would want to make sure first that Zoomtext and Window-eyes will definitely work together. I must say my confidence in Zoomtext was a bit shaken after all the problems people seemed to have with version 8. is version 9 considered to be more stable? I agree that buying Window-eyes represents a more cost effective solution and, while the help available is not as intuitive as JAWS, it is certainly better than the frankly lamentable help offered by Supernova.
When I say this I am not trying to deliberately do any screenreaders
downbut
merely give my impressions concerning what is quite a tricky decision.
Brian, have you much experience of the latest version of zoomtext,
particularly working with Window-eyes on the system as well? I know that
DCM should allow them to work but I also fully realise that things are not
always as straight forward as they may seem.

In this specific situation, using Supernova does not make a lot of sense
to
me. You are already used to using Zoomtext for magnification, so why not
utilise the skills you already have and use Window-Eyes in conjunction
with
it? In other words, just purchase Window-Eyes, and switch off the
Zoomtext
speech. You can then use the speech from Window-Eyes to do the reading of
the e-mail or other applications, and use the magnification from Zoomtext
as
and when you want it.
In terms of reading e-mail with Outlook Express, this will be very easy to
do with Window-Eyes. W E uses Microsoft Active Accessibility to read the
text from Outlook Express, so the accuracy is going to be very high
indeed.
