Hi JonathanFinally bit the bullet and had a go this morning. Worked just fine and I now have the music back on my system. My problem really was seeing the button "Restore my files" and being frightened they were a full restore which, of course, I didn't want. Now, thanks to your instructions, I'm more familiar with the program I quite like it and will not change it for another.
Thanks to all others who supplied advice and help. Roger-----Original Message----- From: Jonathan H

You also restore individual files, groups of files, or all of the files that you've backed up. Open Backup and Restore by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Backup and Restore. Do one of the following: To restore your files, click Restore my files. To browse the contents of the backup, click Browse for files or Browse for folders. When you're browsing for folders, you won't be able to see the individual files in a folder. To view individual files, use the Browse for files option. To search the contents of the backup, click Search, type all or part of a file name, and then click Search. If you're searching for files or folders associated with a specific user account, you can improve search results by typing the location of the file or folder in the Search for box. For example, to search for all JPG files that were backed up, type JPG in the Search for box. To only search for JPG files associated with the user Bill, type C:\Users\Bill\JPG in the Search for box. You can use wildcard characters such as *.jpg to search for all JPG files that were backed up. On Fri, Jan 4, 2013 at 9:06 AM, <roger.south@xxxxxxxxxx> wrote:
Hi All Using Windows 7 Home Edition 64 bitI would like some recommendations on a backup program. I have been using theone included in Windows 7 but deleted a file of music in error and then found although the entire drive was safely backed up I could not retrievepart of the file only the entire file. I did download a trial of Casper but found that only it does an image of the drive as an ISO file so sounds to melike the restore is all or nothing again. What I’m looking for is a program that will allow a scheduled update on a weekly basis so I don’t have to worry about remembering to do it and will also allow retrieval of selected parts of the archive. Karen’s Replicator came to mind but seem to remember there are limitations and concerns mentioned about this application but can’t recall what they are now. As Idon’t use speech full accessibility is not too much of a problem to me. Freewould be nice but not essential. Any ideas and suggestions will be gratefully appreciated. Roger
