[access-uk] Blogging/Wordpress questions

Hi,
I'm setting up a blog on Wordpress and have a few questions, some of which
are about blogging in general and some more specific to using Wordpress.
I'd be glad if anyone can answer any of them.
1. What is pinging in the blogging context?
2. What's a slug? I get asked when I want to make a post for the slug and
there's an edit box.
3. I understand there's a difference between categories and tagging, and
different people seem to have different opinions as to what that is. My
question is do you just make up the categories/tags and type them in the
edit box every time you make a post? Is there a list of categories you can
choose from? If you use a category once, can you choose it from a list next
time so you don't have to remember exactly what you called that category
last time?
4. At wordpress there are two links for dashboards - one is called my
dashboard, which seems to be the place to go to do anything you might want
to connected with posting, and the other is called global dashboard - what
is global dashboard for?
5. Any tips on using wordpress greatly appreciated.
