Hi Colin

That sounds like bone conduction hearing aids rather than head phones. They both work on similar principles. The lack of sound direction is common to both types of hearing aids. The microphone picks up the sound and transmits it to the receiver in or on the ear. That is where, as far as we users are concerned, is where the sound comes from so the fact it originated some way from us is not something the equipment is able to handle. The nearest analogy I can come up with to describe this, i think as I cannot experience this only imaging it, is for a hearing person to listen to a conversation through totally sound cancelling head phones. Where all other sounds except the actual conversation are removed. The sound coming from the head phones will come into the ear and the only indication of where it is coming from will be visual. If you cannot see the talkers the sound direction will be zero. This is common for most hearing aid users with a high hearing loss and does often cause friction with hearing people who cannot understand why "Over here" is not so apparent to us as it is to them.

Enough sais as it must be off topic and we don't want the wrath of the mods to descend on us.

Roger

Greetings,

When my (late) mother used to take in paying guests, we had one chap
staying, who, due to a viral infection, completely lost all hearing. He
used to ware something which rested on the bones behind his ears and could
hear far as we could judge, normally. the only missing function was
positional - having been able to hear before, he could explain when he heard
anything, it sounded as if it was in the middle of his head rather like when
listening to mono on stereo phones.

I nevere actually handled them, so must assume these are bone-touch
headphones. This chap stayed with us back in 1988 and I assume technology
has advanced greatly since then, in miniaturization, if nothing else.
