Make sure that you have the latest updates to Office 2000. This includes
any recommended updates, as well as priority updates. I remembered when
I had Office 2000 that some stability issues were fixed, including, I
think, the length of time before Word closes was improved. Alternatively
(and of course if you have the money), upgrade to Office 2003 or even
Office 2007, for better performance. Hope that helps.
