alt+f4

should put skype in your sysstray and out of the way. It will,however, pop up when you recieve a call but you can then minimize it to the systray again.

You can also create a hotkey to toggle skype from the systray into focus and back again. This is found in skype's options dialog in the hotkey section.

I do not have access to a win 7 machine but would assume this behavior to be the same across windows versions.

I've been meaning to ask this for a while.  Using Windows 7 and Skype 4.2,
does anyone know how I can stop Skype appearing as a window in the Taskbar
and Alt+Tab list?   I just want it to stay in the System Tray when I close
the Skype window, rather than it appear every time I'm switching through
open application windows.  I've checked but can't seem to find the setting
to disable this.
