[access-uk] Re: Downloading with the BBC iPlayer

WebbIE won't work with the online iPlayer: I was providing
instructions for using it with a screenreader and Internet Explorer. I
wouldn't write an application that required counting nineteen tab
presses to do something, I assure you!

WebbIE and the Accessible programs are designed to make common tasks
simple for screenreader users. They aren't designed to handle rare
tasks or situations: that's what you use your expensive screenreader
for. Now, from this list discussion, expensive screenreaders aren't
handling this rare task or situation either, but that's not the
point...

After all, why do an Accessible iPlayer when JAWS can navigate the
iPlayer page? Why do an Accessible BBC Listen Again when JAWS can
navigate the BBC Listen Again page? And why do WebbIE when JAWS can
navigate any given web page? Because the general-purpose screenreader
isn't always the best tool for the job. Everyone is different: some
people like the extra control of screenreader plus web browser, some
people like the easy search, crop and read functions in WebbIE. (And,
of course, its price...) There is no one true Right Way, and that's
cool.

Thanks for the positive comments about Listen Again and Live Radio,
much appreciated. If anyone here is from Freedom Scientific and wants
to ship them with JAWS, do let me know!

Best wishes,
Alasdair King
