After poring over the options in the BBC scheme, and having spoken to them, I decided to simply go and get a Freeview telly and have done with it, even if it didn't have every bell and whistle. At that time, the SmartTalk box was only just appearing, and it wasn't at all clear to me how it would work. We've managed, actually, even if it has taken the odd bit of sighted help.

Hi Mike Yes, by the way they were speaking so vaguely about the new talking box, Ijust had this gut feeling to go down the RNIB route as it all seemed hit andmiss with the BBC help team. Kind Regards, Jackie Cairns -----Original Message-----From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf OfMike Moore Sent: 05 May 2012 00:08 To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Freeview rollout Hello, Just to give some clarification regarding the BBC's freeview rollout, as mentioned by Jackie...The print version states that the accessible digibox is the standard digiboxwith built in speech, as previously supplied by RNIB among others, not the new one discussed on list at present. The recordable one they can supply is not fully accessible, it is "simple touse" but includes no speech for menus etc. You chose well Jackie, as the other would not have been this new setup, offering almost full access.
