Hi Chris.
No problem, we all have questions from time to time *smile*. Basically,
assisted gps is a software based gps system. It uses a landmarks database,
these usually telecoms masts and other transmitting and ground stations to
triangulate your position. When you move around, the receiver calculates
your distance from different landmarks in the landmarks database and
provides a rough estimate of your position. If you have not got sufficient
satellite gps coverage or you are in an area with a poor obstructed view of
the sky, AGPS acts as a reasonably reliable backup as it does not require
access to satellites, thus you can maintain a constant if estimated gps
positional lock.
