Hi Keith,

I knew Gordon by name and may have spoken to him once or twice. I am so sorry to learn of his sad passing and your great loss of such a good friend.

Hello Eleanor,

As I mentioned Gordon in my earlier e-mail, and as many of you remember him,
I will just write a few more words about him.

Gordon was my best friend for around 55 years, since we met at the RNC in
1958.

Unfortunately cancer ran in his family, and Gordon developed bladder cancer.
He was being treated for this, but later had to have his bladder removed.

Not long after, it was found cancer had spread to the whole of his body, and
he very sadly slipped away on 27 December last, one day before my 70th
birthday.

I miss him every day. He was my computer mentor and also my best friend.

With very best wishes,

Keith

I agree Henry and recall Gordon posting lots of useful links to the list. I think I even recall him telling us he was going in to hospital for surgery.

Good morning Henry,

I'll do my best.

I was introduced to get_iplayer by my best friend, Gordon Atkinson.
Gordon was a member of this list, but, very sadly, he died last
December. It was Gordon who gave me many of the commands in get_iplayer.

As far as I understand things, the command --mp3vbr=0, tells
get_iplayer to download a programme in the highest bit rate.

I'm sure that Amro will put me right if this is not so.

With very best wishes,

Keith

Hi Keith

Please could you explain the command " --mp3vbr=0"?

Many thanks

Henry

Hi Pele,

I have been using get_iplayer for some while now, and I'm very pleased
that the latest version now allows me to use the programme in much the
same way that I did before last week.

Others may tell you there is a much better way of doing things, but
this is how I use get_iplayer.

I have get_iplayer on my desktop.

I have a plain text file in which I store various lines of commands.

Each line is more or less the same, except for the name of the
programme I wish to download.

An example of a line I have, which goes to get The Men from the
Ministry, is as follows:

get_iplayer --type=radio --get "The Men from the Ministry" --aactomp3
--mp3vbr=0

This is how I use that line:

1. Highlight the line, and copy it to the clipboard.

2. Open get_iplayer.

3. Press Alt+space, which brings up a menu.

4. Cursor down to "Edit", which has a sub-menu.

5. Right Cursor.

6. Cursor down to "Paste".

7. Press Enter twice.

Get_iplayer will then go to get The Men From The Ministry, and chatter
away for some time.

When it is downloaded, it is stored in a folder called i_player
recordings.

Finally, to get out of i_player, you have to make sure you are at the
Greater Than sign, and then type exit.

As I said, there are probably other ways of doing things, but that's
how I use get_iplayer.

Good luck.

With best wishes, and many thanks for the weekly Radio 4 Extra listings.

With best wishes,

Keith

Subject: [access-uk] Get_Iplayer Commands

Hi Everyone

I have to confess that I have not followed the discussion on
Get_Iplayer as I have never used it. But I have now downloaded the latest
version to try.

How does one run the commands? I can find a list of commands but I am
not sure where to put them?

I tried running Get_Iplayer from the Run dialog box, but got the
message Windows cannot find Get_Iplayer.

All help welcome

Pele West
