Hi Aedan, find the index number of the episode you’re after and use it to download it. Use the virtual cursor to read the get_iplayer window and search results.

If you are outside the UK you may not be able to download TV programs. Can you watch TV on the BBC iPlayer website? If not then get_iplayer won’t work for TV where you are. There are ways to get around this but I’m not sure I want to go into this on here.

Cheers,
Amro

Hi Amro,
How do you select one episode in a series. It looks like I can get radio programs but not tv ones here.
Regards
Aedan.

Hello Aedan, basically, to download a program, find its actual name from the BBC site and then use the command line which Keith provided , only replacing The Men from the Ministry by the name of the program you are after.

There’s a very clear manual for beginners at

https://squarepenguin.co.uk/guides/

The TV Guide and Radio Guide is all you need to look at from the above link.

God, at this rate I’ll need a hat and all! *smile*

HTH,
Amro

Hello Aedan,

Thanks for your e-mail.

Glad you've now installed get_iplayer.

The line you've copied into get_iplayer, although i_player says it's getting a load of stuff, and seems to chunter on for ages, only eventually gets The Men from the Ministry, in my experience.

While it's searching for that programme, I generally Alt+tab away from it, and then later go back again.

Now, Amro, as the custodian of get_iplayer, *smile*, is there anything wrong with my command line, please? Maybe you'd very kindly try the line yourself and see if you finish up with just the one downloaded programme.

With very best wishes,

Keith

Hi Keith,
Sincere thanks. I now have the program installed and am running your line re "The man from the Ministry" to see what happens. Is there any indication of download progress? And I noticed that over 1000 titles were downloaded into the program. I am particularly interested in science programs like horizon. How do I pick out this from the list?

Kind regards.
Aedan.

Hi Aedan,

I'll do my best to help you.

1, Please go to the link:

http://linuxcentre.net/getiplayer/installation#windows

2, find a Heading Level 3:
Windows installer
Download the latest Windows installer from Link, her, and press Enter.

3, look for a link:
http://www.infradead.org/get_iplayer_win/get_iplayer_setup_latest.exe
and press Enter on this.

4, You will be asked to either run or save the file, so press alt+s, to save it, and the file will be downloaded.

I hope this helps.

With very best wishes,

Keith

Hi Pele,

I have been using get_iplayer for some while now, and I'm very pleased that the latest version now allows me to use the programme in much the same way that I did before last week.

Others may tell you there is a much better way of doing things, but this is how I use get_iplayer.

I have get_iplayer on my desktop.

I have a plain text file in which I store various lines of commands.

Each line is more or less the same, except for the name of the programme I wish to download.

An example of a line I have, which goes to get The Men from the Ministry, is as follows:

get_iplayer --type=radio --get "The Men from the Ministry" --aactomp3
--mp3vbr=0

This is how I use that line:

1. Highlight the line, and copy it to the clipboard.

2. Open get_iplayer.

3. Press Alt+space, which brings up a menu.

4. Cursor down to "Edit", which has a sub-menu.

5. Right Cursor.

6. Cursor down to "Paste".

7. Press Enter twice.

Get_iplayer will then go to get The Men From The Ministry, and chatter away for some time.

When it is downloaded, it is stored in a folder called i_player recordings.

Finally, to get out of i_player, you have to make sure you are at the Greater Than sign, and then type exit.

As I said, there are probably other ways of doing things, but that's how I use get_iplayer.

Good luck.

With best wishes, and many thanks for the weekly Radio 4 Extra listings.

With best wishes,

Keith

Subject: [access-uk] Get_Iplayer Commands

Hi Everyone

I have to confess that I have not followed the discussion on Get_Iplayer as I have never used it. But I have now downloaded the latest version to try.

How does one run the commands? I can find a list of commands but I am not sure where to put them?

I tried running Get_Iplayer from the Run dialog box, but got the message Windows cannot find Get_Iplayer.

All help welcome

Pele West
