Hi Ibrahim,

The Opticbook 3600 has a book edge. This is where the book hangs down one
side of the scanner, so you only scan one page at a time. The disadvantage
with a regular scanner is that you don't always get the spine of a paperback
book, so you end up missing characters at the left margin of the page. A
book Edge on the other hand can get right into the spine. There are only
two book edge scanners that I know of, the Opticbook 3600 and 4600. The
main advantage of the 4600, is that it is tremendously fast, about 4 seconds
per page. It is also darned expensive at about 500 pounds.

I hope this helps.

All the best

Steve

Hi Steve.

Excuse my ignorance here *smile*, but what exactly does a book scanner do?
I just scan a book using my 50 quid scanner by placing the book pages on the
scanner, hitting the scan button and bingo, I have my book in text format.
Sure it can take a good while, but what advantage does this scanner have
specifically for book scanning?

All the best, Ibrahim.

Hi Eleanor,

The Opticbook 3600 is a good scanner for thick books. About 250 pounds, but
probably cheaper on Amazon.

All the best

Steve

Hi

Some time ago a good scanner for this purpose was mentioned. I looked
through all my files but do not seem to have retained that e-mail though i
am sure it is filed somewhere. Please can someone tell me the name of the
scanner, a possible supplier and the cost. It cost somewhere in the region
of three hundred pounds and there was even another mentioned in the region
of six hundred. Maybe if anyone is using these scanners they would e-mail
me off list at eleanorburke@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx I want to get a new scanner but
want one which will scan books with possibly over two thousand pages!!!

Eleanor
