[access-uk] Is this a soundcard or windows issue

I keep losing sound for no apparent reason. The last time this happened was a
few minutes ago while arrowing through my skype contacts list. I have no sight
at all so am in the minority I guess,so cannot see what might be on the
screen if it was turned on. I am also not able to bring up narrator or freedom
box system access. All I can do is press and hold the off button and then
reboot.
