Before the Canadian Supreme Court ruled that downloading mp3's was not illegal, these internet music companies were making mp3's available for $0.99 each. That would make an album of downloaded songs come to just under $10 for 10 songs. I think this was a bit of a rip off since the cost of a regular newly released CD is about $18. And you oftentimes get 17 songs on one of these. So given that people were fed up paying high prices for CD's, which pretty much meant that record stores were empty while folks downloaded on Kaaza and Morpheus, I can't agree with music download sites who try to tell us that $0.99 is a good deal for one mp3 track. If you ask me, that's a bit much. I think the cost of blank CD's has gone through the roof, $55 for 50 of a decent brand in Canada on average, part of which goes to Canadian artists. Hence the Supreme court ruling that I've already paid. ergo free downloads in Canada. Course being the nice boy that I am, I don't (steel) or (Donload) mp3's on (Caaza.) Peter
