Martin,

I'm not Glen, but have seen it today, essentially the system is using
a kind of facial recognition software. One snap would be unlikely to
be sufficient. Let me try to explain using a round tin for
simplicity.

If a sighted person looks at a tin, obviously they can only see less
than half of the circumference. Moreover there is a perspective issue
as the tin bends round away from you. So, you would need to take
probably at least three pictures rotating the tin 120 degrees each
time. The three pictures would then be "associated" so to speak in
your image database.

Likewise with the horse. If you took just one picture, say head on, it
is highly unlikely the horse would be recognised if you used the unit
viewing the head to one side or the other. So just like the round
tin, multiple pictures would be required.

The taking of multiple pictures only takes seconds, compared to say
the current range on phone cameras I have used such as the Nokia N95.

George.

Glen, could I then, for instance, use this software, appropriately
trained, to take a snap of a horse that others have photographed and
given a name to that photograph, say the horse is named Juno, if I
took a snap of Juno, it would then find her in the database and tell
me, this horse is Juno?
Thoughts?
