For all intents and purposes, John, Silverlight is comparable to what
are called "rich user interfaces" like Java, or more similarly, Flash.

Or, to put it another way (quoting here)
"Microsoft Silverlight is a web application framework that provides
functionalities similar to those in Adobe Flash, integrating
multimedia, graphics, animations and interactivity into a single
runtime environment"
