Did you use the transfer tool on the newest, or the oldest phone? You must
initiate it from the newer phone.
Also, what errors did you get?

I have recently tried to use the blue tooth data transfer system, but I
found it wouldn't connect. Not sure why, so I have backed up my old phone
to my pc and then have restored the contacts to the new phone. I did this
through the usb, but I know I can do it throug the blue tooth as well.
Not sure why I couldn't get the phones to speak to each other, but the low
tech way worked very well.

I tried a trial of this by copying a couple of my contacts to the sim card
and then looking at them. I found it trunkated them. For example, my
nephew has a home number, a business number and a mobile number. I can see
which is which in the contacts area, but on the sim card, it looks as if
they are all listed separately. I can tell the difference between a mobile
number and a landline one obviously, as it starts with 07, but I wouldn't
always remember which was a business or home number for someone if I entered
both these numbers in a contact card, so I don't like this method really.
Also, if I was given a new sim card, what would I do then? I don't intend
to change phones for the next six months at least, until my present contract
comes to an end, but I think I'll ask around to see if the bluetooth method
of sending contact cards between phones is better than copying them to a sim
card. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Hi Alex, I recommend you copy the contacts onto your sim card. This way, the
sim can be used on your new phone, provided it's either on the same network
or is sim free, thus the contacts can be copied to your new phone. I had to
do this today, and haven't lost any as a result (I would have lost them all
had I had not copied them to the sim card). Hope that helps.
