Alex, you could store them on the SIM card because, unlike memory cards,
your SIM will fit another phone of the same network, or any which is
unlocked. Memory cards are different, of course, in that there are so many
these days.
If you save your contacts to your SIM card, however, I've noticed that the
names of your recipients are clipped when you copy them back into the
phone's memory. So what I do is Bluetooth all the contacts from one phone
to another if and when the need arises.
Hope that is of some help, but others may have their thoughts too.
