[access-uk] Re: Olympus DS moving files

The early DS models, the 30 40 and 50, the speech support in my view is very good but certain things like setting and reading the date and time, system info and battery status isn't read. In the new DS 55 65 and 75 models the battery status is read and as I understand it the system info too, which includes used and free memory. The date and time still isn't read but that's a small problem when you think of all the features the player has and speaks. The newer models also have better speed and volume controls for the speech guidance as there are more options making it more configgerable.

Fair enough. I have 3 of them now, all varying degrees of memory. As an Open University student I find mine good for recording tutorials (at tutor's permission of course) and I have a friend who does a lot of radio interviews so I can record these too. She is in Ireland and I have to listen on-line but it is always good as it is all about law as she is a law lecturer. I think the RNIB had hoped that there would be more speech support on them than their actually is. One I bought today does not have speech. It cost £44.00 in John Lewis. So far so good. I am pleased with it.

Well the newer models have more memory so things are moving on as always.

The RNIB are selling some of these but they now say it is a discontinued line. Guess the speech support on them is not as it might have been. I like them but I am not in to editing etc, more is the pity. I like them for recording lectures and even recording from the Internet as I am not good at knowing how to do direct recording when on the Internet. Very handy little recorders though I have to say.

I have a DS40. The DS55 is one of the newer models with the improved voice navigation and better quality recording isn't it? I got quite a good deal on this and like the results I am getting with recording but I didn't realise that actually the better models, like the DS55, 65 and 75 aren't really that expensive in comparison.

won't let

Hello Dean,

Which model do you have? I have the Olympus DS-55 and I have deleted files recorded on the unit through the USB connection to the PC with no problems. I
don't use the DSS software and the recorder works just fine. If you
accidentally deleted the voice files they're easily found on the CD so it's just a question of selecting the right language and copying them back to the
recorder.

Best wishes,
