I have a DS40. The DS55 is one of the newer models with the improved voice navigation and better quality recording isn't it? I got quite a good deal on this and like the results I am getting with recording but I didn't realise that actually the better models, like the DS55, 65 and 75 aren't really that expensive in comparison.

don't use the DSS software and the recorder works just fine.  If you
accidentally deleted the voice files they're easily found on the CD so it's
just a question of selecting the right language and copying them back to the
recorder.
