When I had a line fitted in my house by BT, the engineer told me that BT
were responsible for the line right up to and including the socket in the
house.

I got the impression that the internal wiring was my responsibility
and the line once it left the house was then BT's but I may be
wrong. I also was told that BT charge anyway for the repairs and
they're not that cheap. I was just going to get an engineer to put a
new box on but I wondered if they could just do this considering that
the box where the line meets the house isn't the new type. There are
two sockets on the filter, I'm sure one is for a router or modem but
I have tried a separate filter for the broadband anyway to be
sure. There are rare ocasions when the phone crackles without the
broadband connected but the worst of it seems to be triggered by the
broadband being connected.
