[access-uk] Re: Podcasts and Listen again

a quick podcast iTunes query.

I've just been playing around with iTunes and added some podcast feeds. I'm using iTunes version 4.9 at the moment with Brian Hartgen's scripts in demo mode just to see how it goes.

Can someone tell me what happens when a podcast updates? Does iTunes automatically grab it, delete the old podcast and then add the new one to your iPod the next time you plug it in? Is it all as beautifully seemless as that? Or do I have to press some buttons to get iTunes to go away and collect the latest version of the podcasts on my list?

Any help appreciated. Oh and is iTunes version 6 with the T&T scripts much improved? I'm still teetering on this one.

Thanks

The BBC already do this with some shows already on the radio. I use iTunes
on a AppleMac to do this though alternatives on the PC do this equally well.
TV podcasting/timeshifting is still experimental but probably will happen as
technology matures and as more material becomes available where the BBC etc
have negotiated the suitable rights for retransmission via this medium.
This latter concern is rather more important than some users may think at
the moment.

In regards to listen again. Won't we one day be able to have an automatic
downloadable podcast of our favourite show? The technology is out there,
but I don't think BBC Radio heads allow for this at the moment, or should I
say they just haven't gotten around to thinking about giving us the chance.
Hopefully in the near future they will have brightened up to the idea so
that we will be able to download our favourite program in 5 easy automatic
downloads. I think it would be great to just go to my computer and find out
that the latest Travelling Folk is completed its download and ready for
listening. And if all this is possible, I'd also like to have an automatic
downloadable podcast of the days TV listings. One could then choose which
podcast to download, BBC1, ITV2 etc, and listen to it at our leasure.
Perhaps though, this last idea might be better if it was offered by an
independent provider such as the likes of the folks at digi guide.
Perhaps the TV listings as read on VIP On Air could be offered as a
downloadable podcast. That sure would save me a lot of time checking several
different web pages.
