Hi, LBC and UCB both on DAB in many parts of the country. This is why I hate FM only. Retuning can be a hassle but the radios are pretty accessible if you get a sensible one with lots of presets, and most Pure ones seem good.

Cheers

well, I'll only say one thing about ILR in the UK, it isn't what it was back
in the 1970's and 80's when the stations were truly local. These large
companies like GCap and EMap have killed it in my view. Station after
station playing the same music, chasing allot of the same advertising
revenues and there is little real musical choice with regard to what is on
stations' playlists. I'm afraid I am very disolusioned with local radio
today and there aren't enough stations prepared to broadcast minority
interest stuff either. In the states for example, there is allot of
christian radio out there, and that's only one interest group that could be catered for. With the exception of Insight radio, I am not aware of any of
the stations that I can receive, are even remotely interested in catering
for people with disabilities. However, I do from time to time listen to LBC
on Astra, and I think that speech radio stations could possibly have a
place, given that I think radios 4 and 5 live need a bit of competition
against them. Just a few thoughts, and I'll apologise for being off topic
straight away.

Hi, I very much doubt it is the end of DAB. The next national multiplex will
create renewed interest, as will the next round of local multiplexes that
are now being advertised. One of the problems is that GCAP are losing money
and rationalising their stations. They are getting rid of the old GWR
stations which include Core and Classic Gold and putting their own brands in
place instead. The merger of Capital and GWR was always bound to result in
this. I think EMAP are also struggling a bit having probably bitten off more
than they could chew buying Scottish Radio Holdings. We're heading into a
recession which means advertising will fall away big time and stations will
struggle.

Cheers
Dave

You can here a short piece on the World at One via Listen again on the
two latest digital station shutdowns and comment from a BBC
spokeswoman re. BBC7's part, or not, in OneWord's demise. Also some
interesting figures on running costs of DAB channels and the sort of
advertizing revenue these stations expect has been revealed on the UK
Radio list.

Five Live is chattering away in its inimitable way too, though I've
not bent an ear to it as yet.

It may be that digital radio will cater to a significant minority
given that radio is a pretty minority interest even in the UK where,
thankfuly, we are still served by some notion of non-mass market
programming, and a mass market' is definitely what the commercial
boys and girls want.
