Peter and Amro, I did say however that I never launched Office 2007. I simply saw it and uninstalled it without even looking. I knew that if I launched it, I'd have problems.

Lucky you. You can't roll back your office 2003 pst files to office 2000 compatibility, so I doubt you could have rolled back your office 2007 pst files to office 2003 compatibility. You can move up from 3k to 7k, but not back down. Once used for a while, once you have stored dozens of new appointments and birthdays etc, you're pretty much stuck with it.
