Hi Andy,

I can't remember the model of our Sennheiser, but there are two parts to it 
which are joined permanently via a cable.  One part is the ordinary 
headphones and the other, with a belt clip on the outside, has the batteries 
inside.  The shape of this part is like a fat pen.There is also an on/off 
switch on this part.Along one edge of the battery compartment, near to the 
cables, is a little lock thing which just presses in, as you separate the 
two sides, and there's the battery compartment.

Hope this may help you, even if yours is not exactly the same.
