You should be OK doing that. When you start the search facility, you usually get 3 fields to use. The first is the file spec, such as *.pdf, the second is text you want to find in the files and the third is the folder to search. Somehow yours must have got stuck at c:\ or similar. That would search the whole drive, but by default, I find mine shows the folder I'm looking at, the same as the one shown in the address bar.

Hello all,

Please can someone explain how to search for any pdf files within a given folder in Windows XP?

On ME, I used to navigate to that folder using My Computer, then press control f; then in the file name field typed *.pdf. But it seems different in Windows XP - I navigated to the folder, pressed control f; then pressed space on the documents button; typed *.pdf and it searched the whole drive.
