Ibrahim, as mentioned to Aedan, your first port of call should be to the rnib for the access-it article. The boxes I use are pre-hd sky+; can utilize all the hard drive capacity (no partioning) and are far less hit and miss. The supplier is digirepairs.co.uk but they no nothing about vi needs. I would try to get the most out of the hd box you have already got, but if you get too pissed off with it, the old route is an easier one to go down provided you can shell out £100 for a recon box. You can always use record links from sky website, or texts from your mobile phone, but I found these notoriously unreliable. As you know only too well, every thing we manage to achieve is alwaysw a compromise.

Good luck and keep in touch,
John

Hi John.

I've just got a sky plus HD box and I'm having difficulty watching programs I've recorded, so if you do know how to play back programs stored on the hard drive that would be very helpful. As for the modified boxes, who is the supplier? Are they Sky boxes or freeview only units?

All the best, Ibrahim.

That was quick, Aedan, well done. From a strictly vi point of view, hd sky+
boxes are superflous; and there is a supplyer of modified boxes with 1tb
hard drives which are even easier to programme and are totally accessible
for recording/playback. You will make mistakes Aedan as, unlike the older
sky pvr2's, there are no audible clues and, of course,, if you are recording two progs simultaneously you will get no sound at all. I've been using this system for about four years, so I've made all the mistakes, plus a few more!
so if you get near to throwing the box out of the window, please get in
touch. Also don't expect too much from the sky talker. Usefull in small
doses.
Best regards.
John

Hi John,
Got that article from the ICT section of the RNIB. Very impressive and I
note the tribute to you personally!
I will pass it around here in Ireland.
Many thanks
Aedan.

Aedan, it is quite possible to manually record and replay programmes on your

sky+ hd box without viewing the screen. A couple of months ago, Gareth
Williams set out a blow-by-blow account in rnib's Access-it magazine.
Contact them, and they should be able to supply you with a one-off email
copy.

Hi all,
New to this list.
As a totally blind subscriber to Sky TV since their digital service
started
I would like to know what people think of the Sky Talker. I recently got
the
HD service with the Sky plus box for the family but would like to be able
to
record and replay items better than I can at the moment.
Kind regards to all
Aedan O'Meara.
