Thanks all for that info.  
 
 Think he only really needs a basic recorder, with the ability to trim the
ends, and save the results in MP3.  

Guess he'll want to record some streams and some through the line in on the
laptop.
  
I presume that Goldwave will do that easily enough while ignoring the
screenreader, but wonder if the free version of NCHwavepad would do just as
well?

Hi Richard, have you considered NCH Wavepad? It's easy to use and is Jaws
friendly. The basic edition is free, but there's then a pay edition should
he want the extra functions.
