Hello Clive,
A while back, I encountede the same problem and in my case, it was due to the
fact that youtube were no longer supporting the version of IE I was at the time
useing.
Now, I can't quite remember how I got round this issue but I seem to recall
there was I think a continue button on the youtube screen which when
pressed,would then enable you to hear audio of whatever clips you wanted to
access.
I think there are other buttons on the screen but as i've never tried them, I
don't know if they're accessible or not.

Hello all?
How to I get the sound back when I'm playing youtube videos? I've seen mute
and unmute buttons, but are there volume control sliders within Youtube, which
so far I haven't been able to find?
