Hi. I grasped it in a couple of weeks despite my reservations about
the platform as I had a bad experience with a tablet which was running
an earlier version which was 4.0 and that was down to me not doing my
research before purchasing the tablet which was cheap and cheap and
chearful won't give you a good experience in any walk of life. I
started out with the Samsung Tab 3 and I enjoyed the learning
experience and I never at any point fell in to the trap of comparing
it to IOS and this is the biggest mistake people make. When people
start expecting an Android device to work like an IOS device then you
may as well put down the device and go back to IOS as you will
struggle to learn Android. I then moved on to the Google Nexus 7 2013
and then felt confident enough to use an Android phone and I then
invested in a Samsung Galaxy S4. I also have my iPhone 5S but I use it
for apps like BllindSquare. Over in the US the NFB have a app called
Near By explorer and I only wish the RNIB would get involved in such a
project for VI Android users in the UK as they did with the Sendero
Look Around app on the IOS platform. I like the large screen form
factor and I also think obtaining such a device is far cheaper than
purchasing the iPhone 6 Plus. I think the Youtube app works much
better for me on Android as I struggle with it on IOS. Voiceover seems
to have focus issues within the Youtube app. I've also discovered that
dictation works much better for me on Android as I have far better
results. I much prefer Samsung devices to any other device on the
Android platform as it gives me the ability to invert colours and you
can use triple tap of the home key to toggle Talkback on and off along
with other accessibility features. Moving icons is easy and Talkback
will announce the row and column that you are moving an icon to just
like the iPhone. You don't have to pay an extra £70 to get an extra
16GB of storage as that's what apple will charge you as you can buy
16GB cards for around £10 if you shop around carefully. Android does
work and is accessible enough for anyone and just like IOS! It may
have bugs. The enphases is more on touch and explore rather than swipe
and tap. I have found that this method is far quicker for locating
items as swipe and tap reminds me of a blindman looking for something
on a floor and eventually he will find it after covering the full area
of a room.
