I was very disappointed when I approached the Switch Over Scheme and informed them about TVonics. They did not know of this speech accessable peace of equipment as they sell some other form of TVonics. However, a quick call to RNIB from Switch Over and I am informed that as they have gone in to Administration the Switch Over Scheme would not be interested in purchasing this equipment for visually impaired so it remains the Goodman's. What a pity but a good example of not wanting to deal with a company gone in to Administration. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ibrahim Gucukoglu" <ibrahim_gucukoglu@xxxxxxxx>

Hi David.

I wasn't digging at you I promise *smile*, just covering myself in case anyone else asks the same question, after all I'm sure Barry wouldn't appreciate loads of messages about these supplemental but inaccessible features. I'd love to see Teletext and red button accessible, but that's unlikely to happen now what with TVonics in administration, never to emerge.

All the best, Ibrahim.

Hi David.

The TVonics does indeed support all red button functions including BBC
IPlayer if the box is connected either with cable or via wireless to the
internet. Unfortunately the speech will not speech when using these
features, nor can you access teletext either. I believe this is clearly
stated in the instructions downloadable from the RNIB website, a copy of
which I'd be happy to send you on request.

All the best, Ibrahim.

Subject: [access-uk] TV Red Button

Hi

Has anyone investigated the use of tvonics with the BBC red button
programmes? I have the Olympics in mind, and I believe the BBC are covering most events, many of which will have red button dedicated channel coverage.

I am wondering whether this is accessible using the tvonics talking freeview
box. I am pretty sure it is not speech accessible, but is it possible to
down arrow to red button programme 1, find out what sport is on that
channel, and go on down until you find the sport you wish to watch?

I believe there is also a bbc digital radio channel totally for Olympic
coverage. Anyone have details of where to find this?

Hope this is not too off topic.

David
