Hi John.
I don't know if this will help you, but we've recently switched to first
utility because they have smart metering. This basically means that they
collect the meter readings remotely using a special digital meter fitted
with a mobile sim card. Not only can you do away with estimated bills and
readings, you can go online and see for yourself your gas and electricity
consumption.

Does anyone know if it is now possible to have a gas meter in your home
which is fitted with some form of speech chip so that you can get the
meter readings from it yourself to give to British GAS. If it is, please
supply contact details for how to arrange it, etc.
