You are correct unfortunately, but hopefully Sky will embrace the new
technology soon, but wont hold my breath.
Freeview may be available to people living close  to the border with NI but
i don't think the digital signal carries anything like the analogue signal
did, so the east coast which used to receive Welsh TV no longer can pick up
the digital signal.
We are waiting for our version of Freeview, which is due to launch later
this year, but it will be a scaled back version without the commercial
stations, with only state broadcaster RTE channels. But not much talk yet
about set top boxes but it would be great if the Goodmans Box was compatible
with that system maybe, but that might be expecting too much
