I'd totally agree with you and I too, ow having got rid of sigate and norton anti-virus have a semantec free system and it runs a lot faster. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they decide to intergrate sygate in to norton internet security, but I can't be bothered to see if this will happen or not and so now I use kerio with which I don't have any problems at all.

Personally I am enjoying for the first time in 5 years the luxury of a Symantec free
system!
Symantec do apparently intend to continue the Sygate product (though not a free
version) but how long will it remain in its present form? I may be wrong but I suspect
that it will quickly grow in size and complexity and unnecessarily slow down systems.


Others may disagree, but that's my answer to your question.
