hi jackie, it's only a couple months old, but it's not originally from vodafone. it was sim free, and was used by a friend on orange for a couple of months before i got it. so it very likely that the required upto date settings are indeed missing. i asked the woman i spoke too at customer services if i need to be sent upto date information and she just gave me the everythings available under vodafone live at our website blurb. which in my case is totally useless! as the required settings are not on my phone at all it seems. so as you say, i need my local store, or custoemr services to send me the settings. i did email them also after i spoke to that woman, but i don't expect a reply this side of christmas! smile. -kevin- "A kiss is a lovely trick designed by nature to stop speech when words become superfluous." -Ingrid Bergman email/msn: kream@xxxxxxxxxxxx ----- Original Message ----- From: Jackie Cairns To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, February 13, 2008 6:10 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: accessing email from my mobile Hi Kevin In our Vodafone settings, we have got our access point as PaidMMS. This is because we are on Pay-As-You-Talk and not contract. I would have thought your phone should contain ContractMMS, ContractWAP and ContractInternet, in addition to the three Pay-As-You-Talk access points. Could I ask you where you got your phone? I'm asking because, if it is locked to Vodafone, the settings will be in it already. If you bought it somewhere else, you may not have the most up-to-date settings in it. Do you get the error message about packet data when you send or receive Email, or both? If it is only when you send, you must ensure that you use send.vodafone.net as your outgoing protocol. You should ask Customer Services, or your local store, to send the up-to-date settings to your mobile, where they come in as text messages, and you save them. I'd be prepared to help you off list if you get really stuck. I've seen all this before with our own phones until we got to grips with it and now do it sort of automatically. I hope the above suggestions help in some way. After that, if you are a pay as you go customer, you need to select either the PaytWAP access point or the PaytInternet access point to connect. If you are a contract customer, then use the ContractWAP or ContractInternet access point. You will need to know the address of the inbound and outbound email servers for your email provider, if this is your own website then your web host should have told you these details. Once you know these details, it is easy to set up, its just the same as setting email up in something like outlook express.
