To answer Damon's point about a collective voice, there exists just
such as thing, of which I am a full member.
It's called the UKAAF, UK Association for Accessible Formats
http://www.ukaaf.org/

It's free to become a member of the User Advisory Group, and the only
requirement is that you are a user of one or more accessible formats.
In other words, they need and want your input.

Their contact details are:
Tel: 0845 60 85223 Email: enquiries@xxxxxxxxx Registered charity
number: 1126966

The joining page is at
http://www.ukaaf.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=119&Itemid=74

I'll paste below the main points of it's motive:

"Setting standards and promoting best practice for quality accessible
information based on user needs
Enabling businesses and organisations to deliver a quality service to
meet the needs of people with print impairments"

Might be worth getting in touch with them. Those of you from the list
working with me on my project know that, sadly, certain groups
claiming to be acting in VI users interest are really nothing more
than mouthpieces for commercial enterprises (not talking about RNIB,
by the way!). I've not seen any evidence of this from UKAAF, so well
worth trying.
