[access-uk] boot up

Hi all - sometimes [regularly] on boot-up, a message comes up on the screen
[before JFW loads] saying to press delete to enter set-up. Pressing delete
does nothing, and I can't get past this screen, have to switch off and back
on again, after which it usually boots ok. Also what happens just as the
welcome music starts, I hear a high pitch single tone sounds; I imagine this
is some kind of warning, but there is nothing on the screen to say what it
might be about.
Anybody help with an explanation for either of these situations?
