[access-uk] disk drive not recognised by windows me

Hi,
I have just bought a western digital elements external disk drive however
although my desktop which is xp fat 32 recognises the disk drive, windows me
on my laptop does not even see that the disk drive is plugged in. is there
anything that I can do to make the laptop recognise the disk drive such as
installing any drivers.
I would appreciate responses.
