Hi Derek
The sad aspect of the Talking Newspapers service is that it left Heathfield.
I liked it how it was, there is less choice now than there used to be.
I think the problem with Talking Books is that some authorities paid and
lots didn't, so it never felt like a one size fits all scenario. Everyone
either pays for the Talking Newspapers service or they don't get it, and
that seems only right to me. It wouldn't be right to have every service
free, someone has to put money into it, and if you buy a magazine or
newspaper from a shop, you should buy the service available to us, just like
Audible.co.uk for books. I think Talking Books became inconsistent and
rather messy.
Kind Regards,
Jackie Brown

Hi Jackie
Was it not said on in Touch that the reason for the talking book service to
be free, it the fact there are far less users to what used to be.
So they want to encourage more people to use service.
could this same argument not apply to the news paper service.
There are less users now, compared to few years ago.
So if the service was free, more people will sign up!
Derek

Hi Iain
I completely agree. If you go into a newsagent, you have to buy your
magazine or newspaper, and while some stuff is available at a public
library, you can't take it away with you, and you probably don't have the
same choice you would from a shop. It isn't unreasonable to have to pay for
such a service in my view, and I think it is good value. I also thought the
Talking Books and OverDrive services were good value for money, that was
never the issue for me.
Kind Regards,
Jackie Brown

But you can't take them away from the building. I really think this is
asking for too much.

correct me if I am wrong, but I am sure all newspapers are available to be
read in libraries.

I think it should be free.
Same reason as talking books free.

Hi Mo,
Im subscribed to the e-text download service; about £40 a year I
think. I use mainly the newspapers and tv and radio guides, and
and Computer Which, but of course I can dip into any magazine atisn't
leisure. I receive some of my magazines by email as part of that
subscription.
